Volunteer responders from Lincolnshire Community Assistance Team (L-CAT) were deployed across the county on Saturday night, working alongside Lincolnshire Police to clear dangerous obstructions following high winds brought by Storm Dave.

With gusts exceeding 55mph, the storm caused widespread disruption, with fallen trees blocking key routes and posing risks to motorists and local communities. L-CAT teams were called to 12 separate incidents throughout the evening, responding rapidly to reports of fallen trees and hazardous debris.
Among the most significant incidents was a large tree completely blocking Canwick Hill in Lincoln, a major route into the city. Responders worked efficiently to clear the obstruction and restore safe access for road users.
Additional callouts included a fallen tree on the A631 near Willingham Woods, obstructions on the A46 near Market Rasen, and multiple smaller incidents affecting rural and residential routes across Lincolnshire.

“Storm Dave brought challenging conditions across Lincolnshire, and our volunteers were ready to respond at a moment’s notice. We’re incredibly proud of the dedication shown by our team, who worked late into the night alongside our partners in Lincolnshire Police to keep our communities safe. These incidents highlight just how vital volunteer responders are during adverse weather events, and we’re grateful to everyone who continues to support our work.”

As demand for support continues to grow, L-CAT is actively recruiting new volunteers to join its dedicated team. Whether you’re on the frontline assisting at incidents, supporting logistics behind the scenes, or helping with fundraising and administration, there are a variety of roles available.
Full training is provided by certified professionals, and while experience, driving licences, 4×4 vehicles, or chainsaw qualifications are beneficial, they are not essential as training is provided.
By joining L-CAT, volunteers have the opportunity to make a real difference in their local community, support emergency services during critical incidents, gain valuable skills, and be part of a respected and supportive team. Those interested in joining can find out more by contacting L-CAT via their official social media channels or by visiting http://www.l-cat.org.
